How to shave to avoid razor bumps, shaving irritation/ razor rash and ingrown hairs.

Achieve the Best Shave Every Time

Prevent the razor bumps we all know and hate.
No more irritated, sensitive skin with stinging sensation after shaving.
Prevent the dreaded dulling and darkening (hyper pigmentation) after shaving.

Unwanted problems can occur when it comes to body hair removal – especially when you like to shave regularly, whether it be your legs, underarms, bikini line or your face.

What causes these problems and better yet, what can be done to prevent them?

Our customers have been following the best skin care routine for shaving and enjoying problem free smooth skin for decades and decades.

“I had always hated how my legs looked after shaving- razor bumps, dark accentuated pores, and irritated skin. I heard you can use Metrin to shave, so I gave it a go. I used the products and did the steps exactly how they suggest, and I was honestly amazed. No razor bumps, invisible pores, no visible hair follicles, and my skin feels so so smooth! No irritation, just a smooth clean shave.”

Luckily, it’s not that difficult! Just follow the steps. Here’s how:

Get the Right Tools

First let’s get the right tools. It’s important to begin with the right shaving products and tools. Before you even get started, make sure you have the following:

  • A clean face cloth
  • A clean sharp razor, preferably a three or four blade razor. Note to make sure your razor is not dulled. Cleanliness is the key to preventing shaving problems
  • A cream cleanser (like the #1 Deep Cleanser) to remove surface oil and dirt and to soften hair and skin before shaving
  • A quality lathering cleanser that contains a mild, liquid exfoliating agent (like the #2 Lathering Cleanser) to removed dead skin cells and shaving debris and reduce excess bacteria
  • A non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) moisturizing lotion (like the #3 Vita Conditioner) to seal and protect the skin
  • A gentle antibacterial and skin healing toner (like the #4 Protective Lotion)
  • A non-comedogenic nourishing lotion like the #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner

Prepare Your Skin

Once you have all your tools ready, it’s time to do some prep work to get your skin ready before you shave.

  1. Soften Your Skin and Hair: Wet the area you are going to shave with warm water or by using a clean face towel soaked in warm water. Alternatively, if you can, soak yourself in a warm bath or shower for about 15 minutes before you start shaving. The warm water will soften the hair and open up follicles, making for an easier shave and better hair removal – and prevents ingrown hair (that can cause bumps) and irritation.
  2. Cleanse and Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate your skin – let’s not scrub and irritating your skin or use cleansers with harsh exfoliants. There is a common misconception that you should exfoliate after shaving. By exfoliating before shaving, you’ll be removing the dead skin cells and bacteria that can clog up your razor and cause shaving irritation. Apply a cream cleanser like the #1 Deep Cleanser rinse and wipe off. Then apply #2 Lathering Cleanser and rinse and wipe to lift and remove dead skin cells and excess bacteria.
  3. Use a Cream Cleanser: Apply a gentle cream cleanser like the #1 Deep Cleanser instead of a shaving cream when you shave. Many shaving products contain harsh ingredients like alcohol that can irritate and dry out your skin. A cream cleanser like the #1 Deep Cleanser with right blend of botanical oil and water will soften hair, skin, and lubricate the shave while providing moisture throughout the process and act as a barrier to prevent nicks and razor burn – which can cause the skin to produce excess melanin – resulting in darker skin or hyper pigmentation in the shaved area.

‘I have been using Metrin to shave my legs for about 1 year now. It has transformed my shaving routine! I use the Deep Cleanser or Lathering Cleanser (ensuring to fully lather the cleanser so that bubbles form) to exfoliate and then shave my legs. After my shower, I then moisturize my legs with the Vita Conditioner, resulting in smooth legs with no bumps or irritation! One of my favorite parts of my ‘Everything Shower’ routine’

Use the Right Shaving Technique

Now that you have properly prepared your skin, you are ready to start shaving. Below are tips and techniques on the art of shaving:

The Shave:

  1. Shave Properly: Shave in long, smooth strokes against the grain of your hair for the closest shave. In more sensitive skin areas, shaving with the grain of your hair will help to avoid any further irritation since the blade will not get as close.
  2. Rinse Your Razor: Rinse your razor after each stroke to get rid of any hair clogging the blades.
  3. Avoid Multiple Passes: Avoid passing over an area more than once when possible since this can cause shaving bumps and razor burn.

After Shave Care:

The skin care after shaving is just as important in preventing shaving issues, if not more so, than shaving itself. Now that you are all finished with the razor, there are just a few more steps to finish up.

  1. Rinse Thoroughly: Thoroughly rinse your skin after your shave.
  2. Moisturize: Gently pat your skin until it is almost dry and generously apply a moisturizer to slightly damp skin. Products with natural healing and protective ingredients are a great choice. The #3 Vita Conditioner works perfectly for this. This lotion also serves as a base for the next steps to create a complete hydrating, protecting and nourishing, non-comedogenic seal for your skin.
  3. Apply a Gentle Toner: Apply a non-alcohol based, gentle toner to eliminate bacteria – which are the main causes of shaving irritation. Products with aloe vera are especially beneficial as they provide nourishment to the skin, and also provide antibacterial protection. This will also help soothe razor burn or shaving irritation if you already have it. The #4 Protective Lotion is perfect for this as it contains healing ingredients like aloe vera and allantoin which are incredibly soothing for the skin and an antibacterial agent formulated just right to help keep excess bacteria in check while helping your skin maintain and restore its natural biome – your skin’s natural acid mantle.
  4. Apply Nourishment: Applying a lotion like the #5 Enriched Vita Conditioner with multiple vitamins, essential fatty acids and amino acids in the certified organic botanical oil and aloe, creates a layering of healing and protection directly on your skin.

Although hair removal in general can be a pesky task, following these few steps will help you achieve the best shave, every time! Your skin will love you for it.
